Spirit Sisters began on September 18, 2006 as a gathering for women interested in exploring their spirituality. In September 2011 (prompted by the belief in inclusivity as well as the men's curiosity since 2006!) Spirit Sisters was renamed Spirit Companions
Presentations may focus on current theological ideas, issues in Scripture and the Church, and reflections from favorite authors. Questions and discussion are welcomed.
The underlying focus of Spirit Companions is to continue growing in how we image our great God with the implied realization that the "how" affects all aspects of our spiritual life.
The basic questions are: If you no longer believe that God is a white male sitting on a throne in heaven, to whom do you pray? If you do believe the truth you learned in the Baltimore Catechism, that God is everywhere, how do you pray?
When we examine our conversations about God, and the words of our prayers, usually God is a "He" abiding elsewhere, and our prayers are sent to a far-off God listening and deciding if we are deserving of love, peace, joy, etc. The truth, sometimes called the "New Story" is so much better than the story we all learned as children.
Sessions begin with an opening song followed by a Namaste greeting
(The I AM in me bows to the
I AM in you),
and brief centering and intercessory prayer.
Spirit Companions offers a time and place for women and men to speak, listen, pray, wonder, and laugh.
If you want to explore and change your thinking and your life with God, join with your friends and neighbors involved in this exciting search.
Meetings are on Mondays at 1:00 in the Parish Center from September through May. All those interested in growing in wisdom are invited! No dues and no obligations -- just a desire to grow into God.
